Memorable Martina Moment: '98 Du Maurier Open

I don't remember much of this one, the only one I remember is the one from '99 that Martina finally won.

But this one has got some amazing shots and rallies on both sides.  Classic tennis at it's best.  I miss those days.

Memorable Martina Moment: Australian Open '06 Quarterfinal

Even though she lost this I had forgotten how entertaining this match was, and how incredibly happy I was to see her out on court again.

Making some very difficult shots look very easy especially for someone who had been away from the game for 3 years.

Her court finesse was a definite breath of fresh air. Damn do I miss those days....

Memorable Martina Moment: 2001 Australian Open Quarter Final

Sorry it's in German I can't seem to find one in English. This is by far one of my fave Serena/Hingis matches from their long rivalry over the years.

Excruciatingly long rallies, extraordinary shots, both players giving it their all, and completely exhausted at the end.

That's what tennis should be all about (but these days often falls short especially in the WTA). *sigh* I miss the good old days....

Memorable Martina Moment: Australian Open Final 1997

Nothing more memorable then Hingis's very first grand slam title beating Mary Pierce at the tender age of 16.

I must admit I don't remember much of the match itself (probably because it was so one sided as it often was with Hingis throughout her career).

But I do remember the closing ceremony (a great reminder of just how far she has come with her English).

It was at this tournament and at that moment that I became a fan of hers. I just remember seeing this young kid with so much guile, cheekiness and poise.

Showing a lot of emotions that many players at the time just didn't do (many still don't in fact).

I think many people often saw her confidence at such a young age as arrogance, but it never came across that way to me.

I found it refreshing that someone so young was so fearless (especially on such big occasions as Grand Slams).

Most people at her age just chocked and could barely win a game being too intimidated by either the player they were facing or the event itself.

But not with Martina she just took it all in stride. That to me made her that much more intriguing to watch.

Watching old matches like these always makes me long for the good old days... *sigh*.

At least we'll be seeing a lot of her this summer, to say I'm looking forward to it would be the understatement of the year.

Memorable Martina Moment: Arthur Ashe Kids Day 2007

I actually posted some pics from this event in August of 2007 (boy, that seems like a life time ago doesn't it?).

Well, it turns out there's a video (gotta love the internets ;). The picture quality leaves something to be desired, but the audio is decent.

I love that Martina's competitive spirit remained through-out (asking what the score was) despite all of it being nothing but pure fun. *sigh* Great memories....

Memorable Martina Moment: '99 Du Maurier Open

This is my favourite Martina match from the tail-end of the 90's. It was Hingis's only win in Canada I believe, and she played superb.

The final speech still sticks in my mind as one of the funniest (unfortunately I don't have a clip it is part of my old vhs tape collection hopefully I'll be able to share it some time in the future).

Memorable Martina Moment: Toray Pan Pacific Final 2007

Ah....good memories. Damn how I miss Hingis out on court. I think I always will. Good thing she's playing some WTT this year :).

Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin cannot be the only ones helping to revitalize the women's game. Especially since they're not exactly playing full schedules.

Memorable Martina Moment: 2006 Rome Final

Along with the Pan Pacific Open this was one of my fave victories from her comeback year.

Those trophy photos are among some of the best =).

Memorable Martina Moment:1997 Wimbledon Championship

Going way back in time to when Martina won her first (and sadly only) Wimbledon title. I really love the outfit it's so 90's *lol*.

Also I had forgotten how unliked Hingis was back when she was #1 (and literally on top of the world) as evidenced in the video even the commentators were semi-polite about her back then.

Flash forward to 9, 10 years later everyone was practically jumping for joy and ecstatic to see her back.

Yep, time really does make the heart grow fonder, I bet those same commentators would be just as eager to welcome her back now. Enjoy ;).

Memorable Martina Moment: World Team Tennis '05

I was looking through my archieves recently, and the 'Song of the Moment' category give me an idea.

Since the whole point of this blog (when I first started out) was to share my passion for the sport of Tennis, and more specifically my admiration for Martina Hingis.

I thought it would be fun to showcase some of my favourite memorable moments from her career.

By looking back at some of her matches, as well as her speeches (since I've always found those to be especially entertaining).

Again I haven't decided whether to make this a monthly or weekly thing yet. I'll figure that out as I go.

I'm hoping to eventually include some of the clips from my personal collection (that I've recorded over the years on my vhs tapes).

But I don't have a camcorder, or any video capturing software at the moment so for the time being I'll have to stick with whatever I can find on the net.

I received this in my Google alerts recently the event that inspired her 2nd comeback. Damn, how I miss her on the tour. Enjoy =).
