Ellen Degeneres replaces Paula as 4th American Idol judge!
Source: nytimes.comEllen DeGeneres will join Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi as the fourth judge on “American Idol” next winter, Fox announced on Wednesday evening.
The announcement comes after Paula Abdul said last month that she would leave the program ahead of its ninth season, which is scheduled to start in January 2010.
Ms. DeGeneres, the popular daytime talk show host, will join the famous judges’ panel after the auditions, which are currently taking place in cities around the country.
“I’m thrilled to be the new judge on American Idol,” Ms. DeGeneres said in a statement. “I’ve watched since the beginning, and I’ve always been a huge fan. So getting this job is a dream come true, and think of all the money I’ll save from not having to text in my vote.”
Update: 10:01 p.m.: The Associated Press reports:
DeGeneres told her talk show audience in an episode scheduled to air Thursday that she would not abandon her Emmy-winning chatfest, but would have “a day job and a night job.”
“The times we’re living in,” she quipped, “we’re all doing that.”
“Hopefully, I’m the people’s point of view because I’m just like you,” DeGeneres said on her show. “I sit at home and I watch it, and I don’t have that technical … I’m not looking at it in a critical way from the producer’s mind. I’m looking at it as a person who is going to buy the music and is going to relate to that person.”
Ok, wow. I have to say when I first read this I seriously thought it was a joke. Not that I'm not thrilled mind you (I've been a fan of Ellen for years and think she's absolutely awesome!).
This just seems so out of left field for AI producers. On the one hand I see it as a very smart (and sure) way to boost up the ratings. Given how large Ellen's fan base is.
But on the other hand Ellen is a comedian and has no music (producing) background.
Then again that didn't do any good in Paula Abdul's case, so maybe the producers are on to something after all.
Ellen is not only funny, but also a people person, so she'll be the voice of the people so to speak (when it comes to the talent).
I'm just not sure how exactly they'll make this work though, since having four judges proved to be problematic last season.
With some major time constraint issues.
As an Ellen fan I gotta say I'm very curious to see how this will all turn out.
And it should be interesting for Ellen herself having to pull double duty with her show during the day and AI in the evening.
Just when you thought she scored it big with hosting the Oscars, she gets an equally impressive gig. There really is nothing this woman can't do!. Congrats :).

American Idol 2007......
17 year old Jordin Sparks!. I knew she would win after Melinda Doolittle got booted off, and though I'm quite happy for Jordin 'cause she definitely has the chops I have to say this year was so anti-climatic.
I would have actually been more shocked if it was Blake that won it (I'm so glad he didn't though). I was getting real tired of his beat-boxing bit. I'm actually still very sad that Melinda didn't win the whole she-bang but I'll take Jordin over Blake any day.
Things I never wanna see or hear again in future AI finales:
1. The golden idol awards *rolls eyes* so lame and clearly time filling devices.
2. The song writing contest, total disaster!. I think Jordin really did the best she could with a sappy, crappy ballad like "This Is My Now". Ok, it was slightly better then Taylor's "Do I Make You Proud" single last year but not by much.
3. Bette Midler I actually really like the woman (and a lot of her songs) but tonight's performance of "Wind Beneath My Wings" was kind of excruciating in the make your ears bleed kind of way. Let's just blame it on the AI band 9/10 times it's their fault! lol. Seriously, I hope she does better when she takes over for Celine next year, or those ticket sales will plummet.
4. Please no more Tony Bennett! I have huge respect for the guy, but I don't know he just doesn't gel with American Idol for me.

The next American Idols?
I usually only write about the winners of American Idol. But this weeks reject auditions were so hilarious I just have to talk about them.
I give you exhibit A:
This guy could not be more full of himself if he tried. He obviously does not know the meaning of the word "sing" because all he's doing is talking lol.
I do have to say I love his names for past idol winners particularly Carrie Underwhere, Phantasia When and his insults to Simon lol.
As for this girl, well I give her credit for admitting she knows she's not a good singer. Finally someone who gets it!. Or so I thought lol, until she uttered the words "even if I don't sing I can be the next American Idol". Yeah that goes hand in hand with saying someone can be a great actor when they can't act lol.
Speaking of actors, here is someone who definitely should be in that profession. She brings new meaning to the word "drama" lol.
Now I admit she's not a bad singer, but she would definitely fit in better with the cast of "Days of our Lives" lol.
And my personal favourite:
Isadora/Julie or as my friend and I have appropriately dubbed her "orgasm girl" lol. Watch the video and you'll understand exactly how we came up with that name;0 LOL.

It's almost that time again
The end of the year is quickly approaching January is just around the corner, and you know what that means? American Idol is coming back!. Woo-hoo!. Yeah I know kinda pathetic to get this excited about a reality show.
Every year I say to myself I won't watch it, and every year I break that promise lol. I guess the allure of those first few weeks of bad auditions is just too strong to resist. lol
Then of course there's Paula's crazy antics (I for one will be tuning in especially for that lol) and her feud with Simon Cowell. Plus Randy's dog pound shout outs and Simon Cowell's honesty. Ah, yes what a great month it'll be lol. Looking forward to it all.
Of course while the viewers rejoice about American Idol's return, the networks are getting ready for the fall out and the ratings slump all of their shows will experience in the months to come. Case and point:

In Seabiscuit, Laura Hillenbrand writes about a pile of manure at a racetrack that a flood turned into “a mighty shit Godzilla” that left buildings and structures destroyed in its wake. That is essentially how the other television networks see FOX’s American Idol, which is about to leave skid marks all over their schedules for the next five months.
One nameless network executive tells Variety, “Early on, I think it was easy to dismiss it as something that would fade. But as the body bags piled up, it became less and less easy to ignore.” NBC’s Mitch Metcalf goes on the record and compares the show to a “hurricane that blows in. We know it’s gonna come and when it’s going to hit. We just have to buckle down and prepare for it the best we can.”
Preparation is a good idea, because Idol “has vaporized nearly two dozen [shows] that have tried to compete against it,” according to Variety. The concern is about more than just shows airing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Other networks “worry that Fox will add extra episodes of the show if it needs the added ratings juice, or fret over the always looming (but still unlikely) threat that the net might choose to move the ‘Idol’ results show to Thursday nights,” Variety reports.
The hope, of course, is that this year, finally, the show will slip, and start its march toward eventual obscurity. “At some point, it’s got to go down, right? I mean, all shows go down eventually, don’t they?” one executive said. Another network executive says that, “One of these years, it’s going to be down 5% or 8%, and everyone will say, ‘Hmmm, it’s slipping.’ But when that happens is anyone’s guess.”
As for that last paragraph, I think the network exec's will just have to keep dreaming lol. 'Cause as long as there are teenagers in the world that show will go on.
I think the only thing that could possibly get people to stop watching is if they all of a sudden changed the format drastically, say by changing the judges.
But since the chances of that are as slim as Canadians (in the Toronto area) getting snow for Christmas lol, guess they'll just have to suck it up and weather out the storm. The new season of " American Idol" begins January 16th 2007.

American Idol runner-up gets recording contract
Kathrine McPhee, who is this year's Idol runner up has just signed a recording contract with creator Simon Fuller's 19 Recordings Limited and RCA.
Personally I'm very happy about this, because Kathrine was always my pick to win Idol rather then Taylor Hicks.
But I'm also not surprised since most of the top ten Idol singers get recording contracts.
The unfortunate thing is that you often don't hear about any of them after their initial single release. Hopefully that will not be the case for Kathrine.

Taylor Hicks crowned as the next American Idol

Well, the grey haired guy won the whole shebang. Now I will say right off that I think he is a great singer but his dancing leaves something to be desired.
I really wasn't surprised that he won I could tell by the applause he received the night before when he and Kathrine performed. I'm actually disappointed because Kathrine was my pick.
I think she could have won it if she had a better debut single. I actually think Taylor had a slightly better one. But only slightly, to be honest I thought both the singles written for the Idols this year were absolutely horrible.
Whoever wrote it should be fired. I think poor Kathrine's votes suffered because of it. Even though Simon did remind everyone to remember Kathrine's 2nd performance when voting. But I bet half those people didn't listen.
After all who listens to Simon?. I'm happy for Taylor he does have a great voice, but he seems to only have one style maybe that will change as time goes on. And I guess I just have to resign myself to hearing the word "soul patrol" for the next year or so lol.
Anyway on to some good highlights from tonight, man they really did go all out with the musical guests this year didn't they?. I mean we had Burt Bacharach, Dionne Warwick, Mary J. Blige, Meatloaf and even Prince. Quite impressive.
The Burt Bacharach tribute sang by the top 12 was very beautiful. And of course the night also included an array of Hollywood stars. From David Boreanaz to Heather Locklear. The most amazing thing was apparently more people voted for American Idol this year then any president in U.S. history.
How scary is that?. Or should I say sad lol. All in all it was an entertaining night, and I'm already looking forward to next year.

American Idol reruns on the Internet
NEW YORK (Reuters) - News Corp.'s Fox network has signed a six-year agreement with its 187 affiliated stations that will let it show reruns of its television programs on the Internet, the Wall Street Journal reported on its Web site on Thursday.
The revenue-sharing agreement allows Fox to make 60 percent of its prime-time schedule available online the morning after the shows air, the Journal reported.
The formula is complex, but stations essentially will get a 12.5 percent cut after costs, the paper also reported.
A News Corp. spokesman was not immediately available for comment.
Fox is the home of hit programs such as "American Idol" and "The Simpsons," and is the latest television network to take a shot at making its programming available online as more people turn to the Internet for entertainment.
Walt Disney Co.'s ABC television network announcement earlier this week that it will offer some of its most popular shows, including "Desperate Housewives" and "Lost," for free on an advertising-supported Web service.
It also comes after CBS Corp. made the "March Madness" NCAA college basketball playoff games available online.
General Electric Co.'s NBC last December started offering programs for sale on Apple Computer Inc.'s iTunes downloading service.

Normally I don't post articles much less ones on reality t.v. but American Idol and The Amazing Race are the only 2 reality t.v. shows that I can not only stand but like.
So I find this piece of news encouraging it'll allow me to watch whatever I miss online:) barring that's it's free of course lol.
