Roger Federer attends Vanity Fair Oscar Party

Roger Federer stepped out onto the red carpet at the 88th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on Sunday.

The Swiss later spent time at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, which was attended by Leonardo DiCaprio, winner of the best actor Oscar for his performance in The Revenant, Anne Hathaway, Amy Adams, Eddie Redmayne, fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger and former World No. 1 John McEnroe. Federer wore a tuxedo and shoes made by Louis Vuitton.

On Saturday night, Federer had attended Harvey Weinstein's star-studded pre-Oscars party at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills.

Federer returned to the practice court last week, having undergone arthroscopic surgery on his knee on 3 February in Switzerland. He has entered the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, starting on 10 April.

Academy Awards impressions

Another year, another night of Oscar fever.

And unlike the past few years the show returned to it's rightful place in the month of March (seriously I can't be the only one who thought it was weird to have the Academy Awards in February).

It was a night full of surprises perhaps the biggest of which was the horrible comedy (sorry Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin) but I'm sure you figured out how badly you were bombing by the lack of laughs.

There has been plenty of hit and miss comedy at the Oscars over the years, but I think it's safe to say that this one takes the cake as the cream of the crap.

Seriously whoever wrote the material should either quit, or be fired. When I first heard about the 2 host idea I actually thought it would work, boy was I wrong!.

But I honestly think the material is really at fault. Needless to say I doubt the Oscars will be trying this idea again in the future.

In fact I hope they don't. Stick to what works and clearly individual hosts work best (or if you're going do a dual hosting gig get some better writers and comedians with better timing).

But enough of that, on to the show itself. I had a feeling this would be the year where The Academy overlooks the status quo and predictability of giving awards to the most buzzed about motion pictures.

Who am I kidding, I was hoping for it! *lol*. It was a total and complete surprise to actually have it come true.

My guess is that The Academy has acquired a lot of younger members in recent years thus this wonderfully refreshing result.

How great was it to finally have the first woman actually win the first film director award (to say it's about time would be an understatement!).

Perhaps it's a sign that the times really are changing in that regard (may there be many more to come!). James Cameron eat your heart out!.

Perhaps the biggest pleasant shocker of the night came when Sandra Bullock won the best actress award for "The Blind Side".

What a way to finally acknowledge not only Sandy's overall talent, but her dramatic skills as well. Seriously who else was expecting to hear Meryl Streep, or Helen Mirren?.

Even Sandra herself couldn't believe it, in fact when the camera cut to her it took her a good minute to register that she had actually won.

I don't think she realized it until the person sitting next to her whispered it in her ear. Great moment.

Sandra Bullock dethroned the reigning queen (Meryl Streep) in the best dramatic actress category who would have thunk it!. Congrats Sandy!.

It was great seeing the animated feature Up garner so many awards as well (if you haven't seen it yet go out and rent it!).

It's a wonderfully poignant and heart-warming story.

Lovely tribute to Mr. John Hughes. I don't think there will ever be a director/writer who understood the mind of a teenager (and young people) as well as him.

I always get so sad when I watch the memoriam part of the Oscars it's such a bittersweet reminder of so much great talent lost way too soon.

The show once again run it's usual 3.30 hours, but did it feel longer to anyone else?.

Could have been due to the continued failed comedy bits throughout. About the only highlight out of the whole thing was Neil Patrick Harris's musical number.

Btw. what's with him being on everyone's list of emergency award show numbers lately? (I'm not complaining) just an observation.

Actually after watching the first 5 minutes of Steve and Alec I kept hoping Neil would come back and do the entire thing!.

Something to think about for next year Oscar organizers ;).

And the Oscar goes to......

Well, thanks to a swift WGA strike resolution last month The Oscars are going on as planned. As for how entertaining it'll be that has yet to be determined.

Btw. am I the only one who still finds it weird that The Oscars are in February instead of March?. Just as I have done the last two times I will attempt to live blog the awards, so you'll have to excuse me if my thoughts are more then a little disjoint at times;).

Since I don't care about the whole Oscar fashion thing there will be no, who is wearing what oohing and ahhing red carpet commentary from me.

Ok, I will make just one small comment in that regard. What is up with almost everyone wearing depressing black this year?. Hope that's not a sign for the awards themselves.

Well, the show has just started and as I expected there's a mention of the writers strike thankfully without the obvious writing jokes, at least not yet lol.

You gotta love Jon Stewart his humor is so smart 99% of it goes right over the stars heads lol (hence the sporradic laughs). No one can spin political humor better then this guy, good stuff.

Damn, I was hoping "Across the Universe" would grab the costume Oscar *sigh*.
Nice to see "Bourne Ultimatum" get a bunch of awards, love this movie.
Too bad Ellen Page didn't win best lead actress that would have been a nice surprise, but surprise and Oscars have been scarce in recent years.

Wow, waiting around for the most important categories takes forever doesn't it? lol. Or maybe it's that aside from "Juno" and "Ratatouille" I haven't seen (and don't plan to see) any of the other nominated films so I don't really care about most of the other categories.

Ok, is it me or did The Academy completely forget about Brad Renfro in the momorium montage?, I mean yes the guy was a child actor known for only one movie (The Client) but the same can be said for many others. I don't think he or the movie was ever nominated for anything, but that's still no reason not to remember him. Very disrespectful.

Anyone else surprised about "Juno" not winning?. As per usual The Oscars keep up the fine old tradition of picking movies no one but the actors who star in them cares about.

Miraculously they managed to once again stay just under 3.30 hours. Kind of makes you miss the old days of 4 hour Oscar marathons doesn't it? LOL.

It's Oscar night....again

Well, the Oscars have just started, have to say I'm really enjoying them so far. It's probably because of the host:) speaking of, Ellen DeGeneres is doing a great job!. I know that some people may not like her or her brand of comedy.

Personally I just love her, she's absolutely hilarious and I think her humor is just so refreshing. Life humor is always the best kind and she's the best at it.

Comedy seems to once again be the thing this year, we even had John C. Riley (whom I love that guy can belt out a song!), Jack Black and Will Ferrel do a number. Never thought I would see that lol, but it was well done. I think unlike last year the comedy is a lot less corny, another credit to Ellen.

Loved the elements and sound choir and the dance troupe, very cool. I'm disappointed neither Eddie Murphy nor Mark Wahlberg won the Oscar for supporting actor. I really thought one of them would. But I wouldn't be surprised if Mark Wahlberg gets nominated again.

And hey is it me? or has Ellen saying "no one wants to listen to long boring speeches" actually helped make them more interesting? lol. Oh, and can I just say I love Ellen interacting with the nominees. Giving Martin Scorsese a script and taking a photo with Clint Eastwood for myspace lol. Great!. Even YouTube got a mention, Hollywood is getting with the times.

Jennifer Hudson just won an Oscar for best supporting actress! (take that Simon Cowell !!). I guess Jennifer really didn't think she was gonna win, she didn't even have a speech prepared. She really didn't need one, more people should just say things from the heart like her.

Celine Dion took time from her busy schedule at Caesar's Palace to appear at the Oscars this year and sing a song. Sounded wonderful as always. And gotta say I loved the dress she wore during the performance more then the green one she wore on the red carpet.

The brown colour suited her better. There, that's the only fashion comment I'll make. Ok I lied I also have to say that Jodie Foster looked amazing, the woman knows how to dress.

Wow, Melissa Etheridge just picked up an Oscar for best original song!. Lots of surprises this year. Good surprises. Like Forrest Whittaker and Marty Scorsese finally wining Oscars (about time!:).

And hey the show only ran about 13 minutes longer then last year. I've thoroughfully enjoyed it this year. I haven't really seen any of the movies, but I was definitely entertained (unlike some years where it's been a snooze-fest). I hope Ellen gets invited back to do it again next year.

Ellen DeGeneres to host The Oscars

I was going to entirely skip The Oscars this year, but when I heard she's hosting that totally changed my mind. Now I will definitely be checking it out. I know that some people may not like her style of comedy, so some may not watch it anyway but I find her hilarious.

I think her brand of comedy will be good for The Oscars help to actually make it entertaining instead the bore that it is every year. I still won't know any of the nominated movies because I never get to see them lol.

But I'll watch it purely for the jokes which I know will be great. I also find it interesting that The Academy Awards are in February again this year, what happened to March?. Makes you wonder why they changed that little tradition, maybe due to Sept. 11.

It's Oscar night

Well so far I have watched the beginning which was interesting, some great CGI work putting all those movies together like that nice touch. Also loved the homage so to speak to all the previous hosts like Billy, Steve and Whoopi. And I loved that they all declined it LOL!. I think that probably reflects something that happens every year when the Academy goes looking for a host lol.

Also I have to say they did well choosing John Stewart that guy is perfect for the Oscars, 'cause he's actually funny. He made some brilliant jokes I loved the one with Angelina Jolie LOL!. Also loved the little segment that was making fun of Broke back Mountain with the cowboy movies lol. Who knew? lol. Some nice editing there too.

And it looks like the Oscars are really going for humor this year, making fun of the Oscar cliches of actors going over time on their speeches even going as far as putting Ben Stiller in a green suit lol.

I guess they finally realized not a lot watched last year and that 4 hours with bad jokes doesn't bring many viewers. I think this year is a huge improvement. Can't guarantee that I'll watch it to the end though. It's also nice to see Goerge Clooney get an Oscar way over due if you ask me.

One thing I'm definitely over are all those Oscar gowns in fact I loved when John Stewart made the joke about the actress's not having enough money for a whole dress due to piracy. The guy is hilarious LOL.

Ok I just had to come back to add this I think the joke and the line of the night goes to John Stewart for this gem "Holy Crap I can't wait to see the Oscars salute to montages". And this "We are out of clips we are literally out of clips if you have some please send them I don't care if they're beta just send them".

The geek in me had big laugh at that one LOL!. Bravo John Stewart I hope they bring him back. And they certainly are piling on the film montages this year I guess that will help stretch it to or over the 4 hour mark lol!.

Boy, you know the Oscars have changed when a rap song is not only nominated but performed LOL!. Edited to add the rap song won wow, now I am shocked lol!.

Also while watching the Pre-Oscar show I noticed Sandra Bullock was wearing a gown with pockets, pretty deep pockets too. That's just so Sandra lol.

And Reese Witherspoon just won an Oscar wow, good for her!.

I think I will stick around long enough to see if Chronicles of Narnia wins anything. Ok going back to watch it will come back and give further thoughts on it if I can last that long lol.

Well "Crash" came out as the winner of Best Motion Picture surprising after all that hype about Broke back Mountain. Also the Oscars actually ended early or on time this year however you wanna look at it. They were only 3.30 hours. Huh never thoughts I would see that day lol.
