The best and worst of Tennis 2006

Since we're coming to the end of the year, there are a lot of best and worst articles circling the net. I received this one in my Google Alerts.

Very interesting read and a nice concise sum-up, for those who haven't been following Tennis too closely this year.

My favourites would have to be:

VETERAN OF THE YEAR (WOMEN): Martina Hingis, who came back after three years off due to injury and burnout and finished the year ranked No. 7. Now, can the wily 26-year-old push her game up to another level and win her sixth Grand Slam title? My answer? a resounding YES!! :D

VETERAN OF THE YEAR (MEN): Czech Radek Stepanek is 28 years old, and despite missing the entire second half of the season with an injury, he still finished the year ranked No. 19. Plus, he's managed to stay with his girlfriend, Hingis, for nearly a year now, the longest stint for any of the demanding Swiss' tennis playing beaus.

Hmmm...I don't know about the demanding part.

MATCH OF THE YEAR (MEN): In his swan-song tournament, Agassi defeated a cramping Marcos Baghdatis 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 7-5 in three hours and 49 minutes of daring, gutsy late night tennis at the U.S. Open. This second round victory was the American's legend's last victory and will surely be rebroadcast hundreds of times.Have to completely agree with this, Agassi definitely went out with a bang.
