Another one bites the dust

Well, it seems that the Belgium Kim Clijsters has withdrawn from another grand slam. This time it's the U.S. Open. She's already withdrawn from The French in order to have time for wedding preparations.

Wimbledon will be her last grand slam of the year and I guess her career since she still plans to retire at the end of the year. Understandably so since she's had so many plaguing injuries.

As great as the game of Tennis is, it's also very taxing on the players themselves. Even with all the training there's always one player that eventually has to leave for good due to injuries. It's really too bad, I've enjoyed her style of play in recent years and I'm really going to miss it.

And I guess after the J&S Cup in Warsaw Poland, there will be no more potential match-ups between Clijsters and Hingis. I'm sure Martina considers it a blessing though, seeing as she's lost to Kim so many times since coming back to the game a year ago.

I honestly don't know what the heck I'm going to write about when Martina decides to retire, well of course I'm hoping she sticks around for a few more years. But sooner or later she'll have had enough and like Kim want to start a family. Yep, the post count for the blog will significantly decrease lol.

Feelin' good

Not much has been going on in the sports or entertainment world at least nothing that would be of any interest to me so I thought I would mention some random life things instead.

Spring has finally arrived!! about damn time! lol. The weather has been beautiful the last couple of days. Which means my folks are gonna start going out on their daily bike trips and probably drag me along with them at some point (oh joy).

It will also mean I'll have a lot of time to myself and that's always a good thing :D.

We've even acquired 2 brand new bikes this weekend, after our previous 2 were stolen from the bike room of all places!.

Well I have to say I am looking forward to some sunshine for a change. Not only does it put me in a much better mood, but I also have a lot more energy.

Say goodbye to 'Lubby'

I have been hearing rumors about Maura Tierney and Goran Visnjic leaving ER since the end of last year, well sadly it looks like the rumors were indeed true. Both Maura and Goran will be leaving ER sometime next year according to the TV Guide blog.

Both actors are apparently seeking a movie career which of course is impossible with ER's shooting schedule. As a long time ER and 'Lubby' (Luka and Abby) fan this was not happy news.

The characters of Abby Lockheart (Maura Tierney) and Luka Kovac (Goran Visnjic) have always been my favourite. They have been the couple that I've been invested in and rooting for over the past 7 years.

Being a total romantic I cannot wait till the end of this season when we finally get to see the happy couple get married (yay!) and may I add about time!.

Goran and Maura are wonderful actors who have undeniable chemistry, and there's no doubt in my mind even with NBC's uncanny ability to find new cast members that gel well together that their presence will be sorely missed come next year.

There's no word yet on exactly when or how the characters will make their exit (well ok I'm sure there is but I'm avoiding spoilers), and I won't bother speculating. I will say this, no more deaths please! (sorry Maura).

It also remains to be seen whether both characters will leave the show simultaneously, or whether both will have a separate story arc, but we won't have to worry about that till next year.

I'm sure we'll all shed a tear when the time comes, for now lets just enjoy the Abby/Luka goodness in all their soon to be wedded familial bliss.

Oh, I do want to add that even though I will miss their characters immensely I wish both Goran and Maura success in their future movie careers.

Andre Agassi oops

HOUSTON Apr 15, 2007 (AP)— Andre Agassi accidentally hit Steffi Graf in the face with his tennis racket, cutting his wife's lip, as the pair played a game while holding hands for a fundraiser following the U.S. Clay Court Championships finals on Sunday.

Just when you thought Tennis was a safe sport lol.

Hopefully Steffi won't hold a grudge, and I'm sure they'll both laugh about it down the road as will their kids.

Avril Lavigne: The Best Damn Thing

I wonder if Avril noticed the title rhymes with her name? lol. Anyway, I have just listened to the aforementioned album courtesy of AOL and decided to share my thoughts on it. To be honest after listening to the whole thing I still can't make up my mind on whether I like it.

I thought songs like "Innocence", "When You're Gone" and "Keep Holding On" were quite good. All the songs I mentioned are slow songs, the rest are fast paced and pop induced.

And to be honest I didn't like them as much as I have her previous ones with the exception of "The Best Damn Thing". That one I did enjoy. I will admit that the songs are fun and some are very funny which is I guess what she was aiming for.

The first single off the album "Girlfriend" which she recorded in 5 different languages, although catchy gets really annoying after the first couple of listens.

It's actually sort of ironic that so many of her songs on this album center on breaking up and general guy-bashing. When her personal life is quite the opposite.

I think that this album is perfect for all the teenager girls out there who wanna blow off some steam and stick it to their ex-boyfriends. I believe for that reason alone the album will probably sell well.

As you can probably guess by now I'm not that impressed with this album and I think her previous efforts were much better. Maybe it's because I'm used to her albums having more of a brooding rock edge to it.

And I also think that her previous albums were a little deeper lyrically, but with that said the album is not too bad. The slow tracks are definitely worth a listen particularly "Keep Holding On" and "When You're Gone".

You can check out Avril's new effort on the AOL Full CD Listening Party site. Once again all you need to do is download the AOL player. The album will be available on the site until the following Monday only. And it comes out in stores this Tuesday April 17th.

Hingis receives Meredith Inspiration Award

CHARLESTON, SC, USA - Although she was unable to make it for the tournament, Martina Hingis made a welcome appearance at the Family Circle Cup on Thursday afternoon to accept this year's Meredith Inspiration Award. It is presented annually to a female athlete who, by her actions on and off the playing field, has inspired women worldwide to achieve their personal and professional goals.

"Martina Hingis is often recognized for her achievements on the tennis court but today we want to celebrate her humanitarian efforts off court that serve as an inspiration to us all," said Nancy Weber, CMO of the Meredith Corporation. "She truly understands the importance of giving back and there have been many organizations over the years that have benefited from her generosity. Through her efforts, she not only helps create awareness for their programs but because of her status, they receive much needed exposure."

Good to see Martina receive an award for her efforts off the court, I think people don't realize how much she has and continues to give back. And it was nice of her to take some time and sign autographs as well.

The day of bad luck

Everyone has their superstitions when it comes to this day some people cancel their flights, some even stay home to avoid it all together.

And yes I admit I have done that myself in the past lol. Thankfully this year the day has been nice and uneventful for me, and I wish the same to all my readers.

Back to the beginning

Well, I quit my job/volunteering today (well yesterday since it's after midnight) so it is back to square one for me. Job searches and interviews here I come (oh joy! lol).

Definitely not on the enjoyment list, but I think the best thing to do when you feel like you're not getting anywhere, not going forward or backward just standing still. It is time to move on. So that is what I'm doing. And I don't regret it, well ok maybe a tiny part of me does but I think that's more disappoint then regret.

I guess you could say I'm no longer satisfied with just the work experience itself, monetary incentive is definitely a big motivator and a need in my case.

It's amazing how no matter how much you may enjoy certain aspects of whatever you're doing (work wise). You always find that the need for money overshadows everything else leaving you with no choice but to look elsewhere.

Now comes the worry whether I'll be able to find anything, but I'm staying positive for now. If only the parental units would get off my back, make up their minds and stop bitching that would be a load off the stress meter. But since that probably won't be happening anytime soon, I guess I'll just have to grin and bear it as always.

All good things come to an end

Well the weekend is almost over (well already over for some) which means it's back to the grind tomorrow, those 4 days just flew by!. I did have an enjoyable weekend, didn't do much just ate a lot, drank a little (of course) and simply relaxed.

Got a chance to talk to a few family members, or at least the ones I was able to get a hold of. I think the rest were either too busy or too tired to bother replying I don't know. But it's too bad because I had a lot of time for family catch up. Now who knows when I'll get to talk to them again. Oh well, c'est la vie as they say.

The weather is still not improving, we're still in the minus column and it's almost the middle of April!. Mother nature is playing a very cruel joke on us all, hope the joke is over soon 'cause I'm not laughing.

Isaac Hanson becomes a proud pop!!

I missed some Hanson news again, it seems that on April 3rd, 2007 Isaac's wife Nicole give birth to their first child a son named Clarke Everett Hanson. The Hanson clan just keeps expending between Ike and Taylor there are 4 kids now, 3 boys and a girl.

Wonder if they will some day start their own band like their parents?. So now that the oldest Hanson brother has a child it'll be Zac's turn next, that is unless Taylor beats him to it lol.

Check out the official Hanson site for more details on the birth.

Happy Easter!!

Hingis pulls out of Family Circle Cup

Looks like I spoke too soon when I said this tournament would have a great line up because now it will be the opposite.

The best players have pulled out due to injuries. That includes Maria Sharapova, Justine Henin, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Martina Hingis.

Who suffered a hip injury this past week while training too hard to keep her compatitive edge. It's really too bad, I was really looking forward to seeing her play in this one.

Especially since she was going to be the number one seed due to so many players pulling out. I hope the hip injury is nothing serious and I wish her a speedy recovery.

Hopefully she'll be able to play the tournament in Warsaw and get her revenge on Agnieszka Radzanska.

Get well Martina:)

At long last! (it's the long weekend)

Finally it is the weekend!. There was a moment when I thought this week would never end even though it was a short one lol. It's probably because very few people came in or called to buy and inquire about a trip.

So through no fault of your own you become a clock-watcher and every second feels like an eternity.

But now I have 4 days off and I am beyond ecstatic, that's 4 days where I can veg on the couch and just do absolutely nothing. Plus I get to sleep in another major bonus! :D.

I wasn't going to mention anything about the crappy weather we're currently experiencing, but I'm really not surprised so what the hell. I will say this it was completely frigid today.

Definitely not pleasant for venturing out anywhere. And it is going to continue to snow all weekend long.

I wish I could say that this is the longest record breaking winter but that would be a lie lol. We've had even longer lasting winters in the past, oh the joys of living in Canada lol.

A blast from the past

Another Martina ad this one is not cringe-worthy, thank goodness lol. I wish I knew what year this was from, judging by her hair I would say circa 2000.

My favourite part of the ad is the woman at the end "I would like to call him Martina but he's a boy" lol. Well she could always take off the "a". I have to say Adidas does good ads.

Hingis does Japanese jingle...

I never said it was good lol.

And another one just for fun. What can I say I like things that are cheesy.

Just checking in

Haven't been writing much in the last few days so thought I would check in. Not much has been going on with me life wise just working. Some days are good, some days are bad and some just plain awful lol. I think I look forward to weekends more then ever these days.

I'm certainly looking forward to this coming weekend, it being a long weekend of course. Finally 4 days to relax, catch up with friends and indulge my geek self by spending quality time on the computer lol.

I'm sure that sounds boring to anyone else to me it's time well spent. Before we get to that (the weekend) I have to make it through another 4 days of phone calls and traveller inquiries (yupee). Anyway I'm gonna stop being a whiner now and move on to something else.

The Family Circle Cup starts next week April 7 I'm looking forward to that, another tennis tournament with a great line-up of players.

Lets hope Martina has a nice fresh successful start, she certainly needs it after all the downers in the last 4 tournaments. I'm sure the 2 week break she had helped her get some rest, perspective and a lot of training no doubt. So I'm sure she'll be ready to kick some butt. I wish her lots of luck.

Lets see what else?, oh yes today is April fools thankfully it was nice and uneventful for me with no one trying to pull some lame joke on me. I think I'm too old for those lol.

But hey kudos to anyone who did get into the spirit, hope your significant other or loved one isn't too pissed or worse tries to get revenge. Lets just say I've been there and it's not as funny when the tables are turned.

That will be all, wishing all my readers an enjoyable (if not bearable week) ;).
