Martina Hingis won the Laureus award for comeback of the year back in 2006 when she made her second comeback to the sport.

This year that honor belongs to Kim Clijsters (and deservedly so).

Congratulations!. I think I speak for every tennis fanatic when I say it's good to have you back Kim! =).

2010 Laureus World Comeback of the Year Award – Kim Clijsters

"2009 was a very emotional year for me. At the start I lost my father, and then winning the US Open was an unbelievable emotion. It was an experience I never thought would happen so quickly and so soon.

"It was an amazing two weeks. I'm really happy that I decided to come back to tennis, and that I have my family who like to travel and live this adventure with me. Now that Justine Henin and myself are back, I think I've started a trend with ex-tennis players making a return. I think it is only good for the sport."

Hingis receives Meredith Inspiration Award

CHARLESTON, SC, USA - Although she was unable to make it for the tournament, Martina Hingis made a welcome appearance at the Family Circle Cup on Thursday afternoon to accept this year's Meredith Inspiration Award. It is presented annually to a female athlete who, by her actions on and off the playing field, has inspired women worldwide to achieve their personal and professional goals.

"Martina Hingis is often recognized for her achievements on the tennis court but today we want to celebrate her humanitarian efforts off court that serve as an inspiration to us all," said Nancy Weber, CMO of the Meredith Corporation. "She truly understands the importance of giving back and there have been many organizations over the years that have benefited from her generosity. Through her efforts, she not only helps create awareness for their programs but because of her status, they receive much needed exposure."

Good to see Martina receive an award for her efforts off the court, I think people don't realize how much she has and continues to give back. And it was nice of her to take some time and sign autographs as well.

And on a happier note...

Martina posing with the other recipients of the Sony Ericsson WTA Award

Martina received another award this time from Sony Ericsson WTA for comeback of the year. So congrats to her, it's nice that she's still getting accolades after over a year of being back on the tour.

She has also reached the 20 million dollar mark in her career earnings and became one of only 4 players in the history of the WTA tour to do so. Steffi Graf, Lindsay Davenport and Martina Navratilova were among the other 3. Again not bad for 26 years old.
