I think it was in the first week of the championship I had mentioned that women's tennis desperately needed a great story to get people excited about the WTA again.

And I had also said when Kim made it into the fourth round that if she were to pull this off, and beat both Williams sisters it would make for one hell of a headline. Well, that headline is finally here.

She's done it!, Kim Clijsters has carved herself a place in tennis history books by becoming the first tennis mom to win a grand slam title since Evonne Goolagong's Wimbledon victory in 1980 (the third mom overall).

And the first ever unseeded wild card entry to win a major title!. Now that's what I call a comeback!.

The match wasn't without it's share of nerves in the form of unforced errors and Clijsters did get broken 3 times in the first set, but held her nerve and won it 7/5 and 6/3 in the second against Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark.

I admit there were quite a few nail biting moments where I thought all was lost. But once again Kim managed to somehow keep her composure and end it in straight sets. Wonderful effort.

Quite impressive for someone who has been away from the tour for a couple of years. Certainly a real inspiration to all the working moms out there.

Seriously, how cute was 1 and a half-year-old Jada waving to her mom from the stands?. Precious :). Congratulations Kim on your second grand slam!. Onword to your next title :).

On the men's side Roger Federer got past Novak Djokovic in 3 tight sets 7/6 7/5 7/5 for a chance at his 6th consecutive U.S. Open Championship. With brilliance like this:

No wonder they call him the maestro! lol.

I think he'll need every bit of that guile against his next opponent Juan Martin Del Potro who dominated Nadal in straight sets 6-2 6-2 6-2.

Will he be the next chink in Federer's armour?. We shall see.

Again congrats to Kim on her extraordinary comeback. Good on ya Kim!.
