They dropped serve three times and had to battle back from a 2-0 deficit in the second set, but at the end of the day the No.1-seeded Hingis and Mirza were just too strong in just about every department, needing just 69 minutes to beat unseeded Romanians Begu and Niculescu for the title, 6-2, 6-3.
The Swiss-Indian pairing now have seven WTA doubles titles together this year - Indian Wells, Miami, Charleston, Wimbledon, the US Open, Guangzhou and now Wuhan. They've won their last three tournaments in a row - US Open, Guangzhou and Wuhan - and their last 13 matches in a row, too.
Even more impressive? They haven't dropped a set in any of the 13 matches in this winning streak.
"Maybe Niculescu and Begu weren't as experienced as a team as other teams, but they got to the final, so they're playing really well," Hingis said. "You need to get up and beat them, and do your job."
"We give our best every match - that's why we're winning in straight sets," Mirza said. "If we slack a little bit, you end up in a super tie-break and it's a toss-up. Every team is as good as the other."
Beyond giving their best every match, they have incredible chemistry - they were asked about that.
"We get along off the court, we get along on the court, we complement each other's games - I think that's really it," Mirza commented. "We have good chemistry. We're good friends. I think on the court it shows as well. We trust each other in tough moments; we come through a lot of tough moments.
"Even today, in the second set it was pretty close at 4-3, and they were back on serve, deuce point. In that moment we trusted each other, came up with some big shots and made them play one extra ball.
"I think that's the chemistry from off the court. And that's how we get through tough matches."
Hingis now has 48 WTA doubles titles to her name while Mirza collected her milestone 30th.
They now head to the Premier Mandatory-level China Open in Beijing, where they're the No.1 seeds.
Begu and Niculescu had taken out a pair of seeded pairs en route to the final - the No.3 seeds,Caroline Garcia and Katarina Srebotnik, and the No.6 seeds, Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka.
