J.J. Abrams spy drama 'Undercovers' coming to NBC

Back in October of last year I posted that J.J. Abrams (best known for the creation of Alias and most recently Fringe) was in a bidding war with several networks over a project that sounded suspiciously like the t.v. version of the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Well, it looks like NBC has won that particular bidding war.

J.J. Abrams has a new drama for NBC’s upcoming season!

Undercovers stars English actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Boris Kodjoe (Madea’s Family Reunion, Surrogates) as retired and married CIA agents who get called back in to duty after leaving the spy world behind.

“We have tremendous confidence in this promising series and feel this is a great way to kick off our upcoming Upfront development announcements,” NBC Universal Chairman Jeff Gaspin said (via THR). “J.J. has delivered another signature series along with our partners at Warner Bros and we couldn’t be happier.”

I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. After all NBC hasn't had the greatest luck with action dramas as of late (Bionic Woman anyone?).

I'll check it out but, if this new show ends up being as complicated as Fringe, or if I see a hint of the craziness that was Alias season 3 I won't even bother.
