More Hingis pics from Acura Classic

Since blogger wouldn't let me put anymore pics in the other post I'm making a separate one:D. The first pic is Martina posing with the award I mentioned in the other post.

Hingis advances to third round at Acura Classic

Well, I finally have some Martina Hingis tennis related news it's been a while lol. Now this is not going to be long because I have not actually seen any of the Acura Classic matches yet, unfortunately.

So I can only give a report through written articles. As the title says Martina has moved on to the third round beating another player I never heard of an American named Meilen Tu in two easy sets.

After the match Hingis was presented with the tournament's Corina Morariu Comeback Award. Well deserved for all the work she has put in this year, it's really amazing how well she's doing.

Next she will face Flavia Penetta who I think Martina has already beaten at least three times this year so the odds are good. Things will get interesting if she has to face Kim Clijsters again in the quarters.

Also just have to add I love her new outfit, take notes Sharapova.

All pics are from Hingis.org already linked on this blog.

Hingis begs dope testers not to disrupt her day

August 01, 2006 Edition 3

San Diego, California - It's not the knock on the door that worries Martina Hingis - it's the timing.

The Swiss former world number one, making her WTA summer hardcourt start here this week, complained that a Sunday drug test during a pre-tournament training day threw off her carefully prepared routine for no good reason.

Hingis, who returned in January after a long break from the sport, said drug testers need to have some consideration. "They should look at a player's schedule. They just come in and screw up your whole day," the five-time Grand Slam winner said yesterday.
"They could come at the end of the day or in the morning, but not in the middle of the day when you have training.

"It's not a big difference if it's in the morning, the night or the next day. It's not like anything's going to go away."

Hingis said she is all for random drug testing - "the rules should be respected," she declared - but that testers could do with some consideration.
Hingis said she will never forget a 6 am test performed in Switzerland in 1996.
"I'm not running away, but I want my two hours of sleep. It's OK to test me. But don't show up at 6," Hingis lamented. - Sapa-AFP

I sort of have mixed feelings about this article. On the one hand I agree that it's a little unfair to mess up a players schedule but on the other, they wouldn't be called "random" drug tests if you knew ahead of time.

I really wish all these darn athletes would stop cheating with drugs. This way honest players like Martina wouldn't have to suffer the consequences of their actions. Anyway that's my small rant for the day lol.

I know it's been a little slow in the Tennis news lately but hopefully things will pick up once I'm able to see some of the Acura Classic matches and of course Rogers Cup on August 12.

Mary Pierce returns after six months at the Acura Classic

This may again be old news to some I guess, but I was so happy when I read this. Apparently Mary Pierce is returning after six months to play at the San Diego event.

I hope she's injury free for a long while, I love watching her play. And I would love to see her and Martina play again. So I hope they both do well.

Come to think of it she probably has already played since it was suppose to be Monday and it's Tuesday now:). I hate not being able to see this one on t.v. Hopefully I'll be able to get it online somewhere and give a full report.

All in all things are looking up for the hard court season. I actually hope Serena stays away for a while longer. I like seeing other players besides the Williams sisters win these tournaments.

Anyway here is a related article:
