Martina Hingis & Sania Mirza double up and storm into the semis of Wuhan Open in China

WUHAN, China - Reigning Wimbledon and US Open champions Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza found themselves backlogged due to a Wednesday evening washout, but the top seeds rose to the challenge in stupendous form on Thursday, finishing a 6-3, 6-2 win over Anastasia Rodionova and Klaudia Jans-Ignacik and following that up with an even quicker quarterfinal win over Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears, dispatching the No.5 seeds, 6-2, 6-2, in 58 minutes.

Hingis and Mirza were just three games into their second round encounter with Rodionova and Jans-Ignacik before rain forced them off the court. Their next opponents, No.4 seeds Chan Yung-Jan and Chan Hao-Ching were in the same situation and displayed similar resolve on Thursday, first defeating another pair of sisters in Nadiia and Lyudmyla Kichenok, 6-4, 6-2, and then taking out Julia Goerges and Karolina Plisova, 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

The Chans have played Hingis and Mirza three times this summer, losing their first encounter with the top seeded team at the Rogers Cup before earning their revenge at the Western & Southern Open. Hingis and Mirza trailed the sisters 0-5 in the quarterfinals of the US Open, but dropped just two more games en route to a 7-6(5), 6-1 victory.

Losing just two matches since Wimbledon, Hingis and Mirza captured their first title after winning theUS Open in Guangzhou and are looking for their seventh title of 2015, having already qualified for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global.

On the bottom half of the draw, Romanians Irina-Camelia Begu and Monica Niculescu benefitted from a walkover given by Garbiñe Muguruza and Carla Suarez Navarro, and will next face No.6 seeds and 2013 US Open champions Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka, who were on schedule in winning their quarterfinal encounter against Gabriela Dabrowski and Alicja Rosolska, 6-4, 6-3.
